Mrs. Dorsie "Dot" Ioa Hawks Martin

Mrs. Dorsie “Dot” Ioa Hawks Martin, age 94, of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Martin was born in Barwell County, Virginia on June 10, 1923 to the late John Jefferson Hawks and Lula Frances Cagle Hawks King. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed. Left to cherish her memory are a son and daughter in-law, Jack and Faye Martin; two grandchildren, Susanne Martin, and Steven Martin and wife Ashley; two great-grandchildren, Steven Lee Martin, Jr. and Abby Martin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Lee Martin; sisters, Mazie Ann Hawks, Margie Hawks Carter, Hazel Hawks Mitchell, Vesta Hawks Childress, Dovie Hawks Hiatt, and Mae Hawks Roddy; and a brother, Robey Hawks. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by Dr. David Sparks. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church at 120 Pentecostal Holiness Church Road, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
