Mrs. Dovie Elizabeth Marsh

Mrs. Dovie Elizabeth Watson Marsh, age 93 of Ararat, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, August 24, 2016 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born in Surry County on January 22, 1923 to the late Joseph Herman Watson and Etta Flippin Watson. Mrs. Marsh retired from J.C. Penney’s and was the oldest living member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. Mrs. Marsh is survived by her two sons, Joseph Virgil “J.V.” Marsh and Stephen Douglas Marsh, both of the home; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilliam Hughes Marsh; a sister, Mildred Watson Flynn; two brothers, Julius Herman Watson and Hadley Clarence Watson. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM Friday, August 26, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Friday at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy one hour prior to the service. The interment will be private at Mount Zion Baptist Church. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Central Continuing Care, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the wonderful care Mrs. Marsh was given during her illness. In lieu of food or flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1288, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 to assist with the funeral expenses.
