Mrs. Edna Lawrence Ellis

Mrs. Edna Lawrence Ellis, age 91 of Stuart, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. She was born in Stokes County, North Carolina on April 30, 1920 to the late Charlie and Betty Brown Lawrence. She graduated from Sandy Ridge High School in 1935 as class valedictorian. She worked at Jobbers Pants Factory in Martinsville and later as a ward secretary at R. J. Reynolds Hospital in Stuart. She was a homemaker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She enjoyed reading, sewing, working on the family farm and spending time with family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, James Rufus Ellis; a son, Donald Ray Ellis; two brothers, Albert Lawrence and Louis Lawrence; and a sister, Ruth Lawrence.
Mrs. Ellis leaves behind two loving daughters and sons-in-law, Lee Ann and Billy Collins of Stuart, and Sharon and John Coleman of Monroe, North Carolina; her precious grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin Collins and wife, Renee, Amy Fix and husband, Jason, all of Stuart, and Matthew Coleman and wife, Monica of New York, New York; and four adored great-grandchildren, Austin Collins and MaKayla Fix of Stuart and Alexander and William Coleman of New York. She is also survived by her wonderful caregivers, Jenny Arnold, Rebecca Lilley, Stephanie Stowe, Trish Handy, Sharon Plaster and Jackie Lee; and her faithful black lab, Rover.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ellis will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder LaRay Smith and Brother Ed Hartman officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home, 4270 Moorefield Store Road, Stuart.
