Mrs. Edna Light Hughes

Mrs. Edna Light Hughes, age 94 of Martinsville, passed away Monday, January 7, 2008 at the R. J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital. She was born in Patrick County on January 24, 1913 to the late Albert "Abb" and Dollie Handy Light. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Grant Hughes; one son, Maynard Hughes; one granddaughter, Kathy J. Lane; two sisters, Bessie Reynolds and Beadie Turner; and three brothers, Clifford, Camden and Raymond Light.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Verna and Jim Johnston of Martinsville, Judy and Coy Morrison of Abingdon and Phyllis and Ronnie Thacker of Ridgeway; one son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Albert and Aileen Hughes of Martinsville; daughter-in-law, Martha Hughes of Thornhill, Tennessee; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Grace Turner of Stuart.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes will be held Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Jim Churchwell and Elder Donnie Conner officiating. Burial will follow in the Hughes-Lawson Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
