Mrs. Elaine Melba Edwards

Mrs. Elaine Melba Southern Anderson Edwards age 88 of 176 Janice Drive, Mt. Airy, NC passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born February 3, 1925 in Lee County to the late Emily Southern Allen. She was retired from Northern Hospital of Surry County and was of the Baptist Faith. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-laws, Betty and Click Dixon and Peggy and Larry Leftwich all of Mt. Airy, a son and a daughter-in-law, Bobby and Helen Anderson, Wilkesboro, seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, one brother and sister-in-law, A.G. and Ellen Southern, Winston-Salem, NC. one half-sister and two brothers-in-law, Wanda and Don Boyles, Mt. Airy and Howard Chamberlain, Mt. Airy two half brothers and sisters-in-laws, Flynn and Betty L. Allen, Mt. Airy, Billy Gray and Wanda Allen, Mt. Airy and a special canine companion, "Willie". In addition to her mother, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her son Billy Anderson, her first husband, Lawrence Anderson, her second husband, Raymond Edwards and three half sisters, Virginia Chamberlain, Fannie Owene Hiatt and Emma Melvine Allen. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by Rev. Woody Flippen and Rev. Tommy Slate. Burial will follow in Maple Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12:00 noon until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Golden Living and Northern Hospital of Surry County for the care given to Mrs. Edwards during her stay.
