Mrs. Elaine Wendt York, 82, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born on December 18, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Frank and Minnie Roepke Wendt. She moved to Mount Airy in 1968 and had resided locally since that time. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Nick and Debbie Jarrell, one granddaughter, Amy Jarrell Faile (Craig), two grandsons, Scott Jarrell (Shawna), and Patrick Jarrell (Marlana), and six great-grandsons. Also surviving is a special stepdaughter and her family, Billie and Ray Hutchens, Daniel, Dusty and Dawson; one sister, Dorene Koch of Avon, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Elaine in death were her husbands, Raymond Fouts, James Wood, and James York; four sisters, Adeline, Delores, Nathalie, and Myrtle, and one brother Warren. Visitation will be at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy on Friday November 30, 2012 from 6:30 until 8:30, with the funeral service scheduled at Antioch Baptist Church on Saturday December 1, 2012 at 11:00 AM conducted by Rev. Dale Wallace. The family would like to thank the staff, residents, and family members from Twelve Oaks Memory Care Center, who have been Elaine's extended family for over three years.
