Mrs. Elizabeth Hicks Maye

Mrs. Elizabeth Hicks Maye, 79, of Twelve Oaks Retirement Center, wife of the late Joseph B. Maye, died at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Mrs. Maye was born September 22, 1936, in Cleveland County, the daughter of the late Rev. E. B. and Sarah Elizabeth Harris Hicks. Mrs. Maye was a loving wife, stepmother, aunt, and sister. She was an artist and entrepreneur. She attended Meredith College, and served as Miss Shelby in 1955 and was in the 1955 Miss North Carolina Pageant. Mrs. Maye lived in and around Mount Airy her entire adult life and was an active community member. She had her own interior design company and enjoyed transitioning spaces from drab to beautiful. One of her last design forays was to help configure Renfro Lofts in Mount Airy. Surviving are her brother, Robert B. Hicks of Winston-Salem; nephew, R. Byron Hicks, Jr. and his wife Lori of Winston-Salem; niece, Ann H. Yonker and her husband Ron of Charlotte, NC; stepson Bennett Maye and his wife Debbie of Fort Mill, SC; and brother-in-law, Bob Maye and his wife, Linda of Morganton, NC. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Libby Maye CNA Scholarship Fund, Surry Community College, 630 S. Main Street, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
