Mrs. Esther Elaine Hiatt Dawson

Mrs. Esther Elaine Hiatt Dawson, 97, of Ararat, VA passed away at Northern Hospital of Surry County on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. Born on November 30, 1919 one of six daughters to the late William Marion and Mimie Gwynn Hiatt in Patrick County, VA, Mrs. Dawson was a loving mother of five, working diligently to care for her family, cooking, gardening, sewing and knitting. She was a devoted member of Mount Bethel Moravian Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Peter Bradfield, Elizabeth and Ben Towe; sons and daughters-in-law, Porter and Lisa Dawson, David and Janie Dawson and Linda Dawson; grandchildren and spouses, Angela and Glenwood Beamer, Beth and B.J. Ayers, Catherine Dawson, Will Dawson, Julie and Bernie McGroarty, Jenny and Mike Solpietro, Heather Towe, Mandi and Grant Rumsey and Sheri Towe; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dawson was preceded in death by her husband, Garnet Calvin Dawson; a son, Bill Dawson; sisters, Virginia Hiatt, Margaret Leonard, Clara Meredith; Ruth Bowman and her twin sister, Eveyln Coulson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Mount Bethel Moravian Church with Rev. Charles Fishel officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy on Saturday, from 12:00 noon until the time to leave for the service.
