Mrs. Ethel Irene Simpson Slate

Mrs. Ethel Irene Simpson Slate, age 81, of Mt. Airy, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at the Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Slate was born in Surry County on July 9, 1935 to Ray Melvin and Mazie Sawyers Simpson. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Michael Daniel; sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark Slate, Eddie Slate, Eric Slate and Mike and Teresa Slate; grandchildren, Heath Daniel, Lili Daniel, and Mason Slate; and brothers and a sister-in-law, Ray Melvin Simpson, Jr. and Doug and Kathy Simpson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Slate was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Thomas Slate; and a brother, Charles Simpson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Little Mountain Baptist Church by Rev. Billy Watson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please make memorials to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home at 945 Zephyr Rd. Dobson, NC 27017.
