Mrs. Ethlyne H. Creasey, age 84 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2009 at the Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on November 1, 1924 to the late J. S. and Wyra Gunter Hazlewood. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Creasey was preceded in death by her husband, W. Clyde Creasey, one daughter, Donna Anne Creasey; and one sister, Ellen H. Martin. She was a longtime member of Stuart Baptist Church where she served in numerous capacities, was vice mayor of the Stuart Town Council and was on the Board of Directors for the R. J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital. She had been a legal secretary for Attorney Lawrence Burton, and had been the Clerk of Court for Judge Ruth Williams.
Mrs. Creasey is survived by one brother, Lee Hazlewood of Patrick Springs; three sisters, Thelma Martin of Stuart, Iris H. Hylton of Danville and Faye H. Staples of Ridgeway; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Anita Cox of Stuart.
A graveside service for Mrs. Creasey will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Stuart Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Clint Hopkins and Rev. Robert Belcher officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and on Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 800 p.m. at the homeplace.
