Mrs. Eva Pearl Handy Palmer, age 100 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Martinsville. She was born on August 11, 1908 in Patrick County to the late William David Handy and Mary Emily Ashby Handy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Palmer was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Palmer; one son, Lee Roy Palmer; one daughter, Ruth Beasley; one grandson, Harold Beasley; and two brothers, Benjamin and Ralph Handy. She was a member of Mount Airy Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a homemaker, farmer, and had owned and operated Palmer's Grocery in Dry Pond with her husband for many years.
Mrs. Palmer is survived by three daughters, Mary P. Cox of Stuart and Wavey Mabry and Edith Thomas, both of Mount Airy, North Carolina; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Palmer will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Rev. David Heath officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
