Mrs. Eva Elgin Wood Pendleton

Mrs. Eva Elgin Wood Pendleton, age 90 of Stuart and formerly of the Lone Ivy Community passed away Sunday evening at The Landmark Center in Stuart. She was born on July 27, 1919 in Patrick County to the late George and Callie Elgin. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Leo Wood; her second husband, Herman Pendleton; a daughter in law, Marie Wood; four sisters, Cornelia Beam, Vergie Prillaman, Zula Baliles, Vivian Prillaman; and three brothers, Johnnie, Lee, and Hansford Elgin. Mrs. Pendleton taught school in Lone Ivy and Woolwine; she and her first husband started Wood's Cold Storage; and she was a member of Smith River Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are a daughter and son in law, Ritta and Dennis Rylands of Lancaster, NH; two sons and a daughter in law, John and Rose Wood of Stuart, Barry Wood of San Ramon, CA; one step-daughter, Janie McDaris, and husband, Don, of High Point, North Carolina; two step-sons, Gary Pendleton and wife, Laura, of Raleigh, North Carolina and Hal Pendleton of Norfolk; eight grandchildren, Jeff Wood, Tommy Wood, Tracie Rogers, John C. Wood, James Wood, Stephen Wood, Daniel Rylands, Callie Rylands; three step-grandchildren, Blaire Pendleton, Gray Pendleton and Ray McDaris; and one great granddaughter, Macie Rogers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Dewayne Troutt officiating. Burial will follow in the Wood Family Cemetery.
