Mrs. Eva Joan Reece Smith

Mrs. Eva “Joan” Reece Smith age 62 entered the portals of Heaven on February 29, 2016 in the comfort of her home while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on August 2, 1953 to the late Floyd George and Ethel Nichols Reece. Mrs. Smith was retired from Northern Hospital as a physician office assistant. She was also a dedicated member of Welcome Baptist Church where she served as church pianist and treasurer for several years. She was a loving wife, mother grandmother and friend who dedicated her life to her Lord and Savior and her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband of thirty two years Clay Franklin Smith of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Crystal Edmonds of Tobaccoville; a daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Brian Ray of Spartanburg, SC; ten beloved grandchildren, a sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Brad Bowman of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, two brothers, Floyd George Reece, Jr. and Mark Reece preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Welcome Baptist Church, where her body will be taken to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the service. The Rev. Bailey Elmore, the Rev. Stuart Mauck and the Rev. Barry O’Neal will conduct the service Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Garden. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy.
