Mrs. Evelyn Allene Harmon Bishop, age 79 of Martinsville, and formerly of Bassett, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville. She was born in Mercer County, West Virginia to the late Wilbern and Annie A. Walker Harmon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bishop; one sister, Helen Harmon; and six brothers, Charles, Donald, Roy, John, Larry and Darrell Harmon. She had worked at Bassett-Walker Industries, and had been a member of Goodwill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bishop is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and David Helms of Martinsville, Freda and Cecil Barbour of Bassett, Deborah and Jerry Byrd of Bassett and Faye Padgett of Bassett; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Betsy Bishop of Bassett, David and Janet Bishop of Patrick Springs, and Fred Allen, Jr. and Pam Bishop of Patrick Springs; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Julie Logan of Salisbury, North Carolina, Peggy Agee of Stanley, North Carolina, Betty Gardner of Granite Quarry, North Carolina and Mary Spears of Mocksville, North Carolina; one brother, Joseph Harmon of Cleveland, North Carolina; 6 nieces and 16 nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bishop will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Goodwill Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Sisk officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Herman Church of the Brethren cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the church until the time of the service.
