Mrs. Evelyn Ruth Schwemer

Mrs. Evelyn Ruth Schwemer, age 93 of Roanoke, and formerly of Patrick County, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at her home in Roanoke. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 4, 1919. Mrs. Schwemer was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Rev. L.L. Schwemer; her parents, Walter Huegel and Florence Robinson Huegel Stigers; her adoptive father, Ralph S. Stigers; and her brother, Ralph Stigers. She was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, was a substitute teacher in Patrick County for many years, and was a member of the Stuart Book Club. She was very active in the WMU and in her husband's church ministries. She was a member of Melrose Baptist Church in Roanoke.
Mrs. Schwemer is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Patti Schwemer of Richmond, Tim and Tangie Schwemer of Roaonoke; two grandchildren, Drew Schwemer of Austin, Texas, Gretchen Schwemer-Smith, and husband, Jason of Richmond; a step-granddaughter, Jessica Moore of Danville; a great-grandson, Liam Smith; a special sister-in-law, Jean Stigers; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Schwemer will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Sycamore Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Melton and Dr. Ray Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. If desired, memorials may be made to Sycamore Baptist Church, 179 Sycamore Church Lane, Stuart, Virginia 24171, Melrose Baptist Church, 3520 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24019, or to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24018.
