Mrs. Evola Vernon Hawks

Mrs. Evola Vernon Hawks, age 85, of Mt. Airy, NC passed away on Saturday morning July 23, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Mt. Airy. She was born in Surry County on March 23, 1926 to the late Rufus and Ada Wright Vernon. She was a Sales Manager for Cato's Corporation in Charlotte, NC, and was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband Paul H. Hawks of the home; daughter and son-in-law Andrea and Joe Sloop of Ararat, VA; son Michael Wayne Hawks of Rhodhiss, NC; by eight grandchildren Tracie Frost, Johannah West, Andrew Sloop, Ben Sloop, David Sloop, Zachary Sloop, John Paul Hawks, Jason Lee Hawks; by five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son Gregory Paul Hawks. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday July 25, 2011 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Brother Joe Sloop will conduct the service. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson on Sunday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
