Mrs. Fannie Jane Lambert Leonard, age 100 of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday, September 09, 2013 at Northern Hospital of Surry. Mrs. Leonard was born in Surry County on October 27, 1912 to W. Frank and Annie Pearl Lewis Lambert. She was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church and a strong Christian woman who was truly a living testimony. Mrs. Leonard will be dearly missed by all her family and so many friends she had encouraged and uplifted throughout the years. Surviving are daughters and a son-in-law, Juanita Clifton of Mt. Airy; Mildred and Bill Overby of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Kim L. Cheek and husband Greg, Lisa L. Jackson and husband Greg, David L. Overby and Stephen M. Overby and wife Ashley; great grandchildren, Ashley M. Bryant and husband Jacob, Joseph L. Cheek and wife Heather, Christopher A. Jackson, Sarah K. Jackson, Blaine M. Overby and Hanna E. Overby and great-great grandchildren, Syler J. Bryant, Jacey Crawley, Cameron Cheek and Kaylee Cheek. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Alton Leonard; a grandson, Blaine L. Overby; sisters Mary Valentine and Annie Laura Morris, brothers, Gene Lambert, Fred Lambert, Vincent Lambert, Harry Lambert and R. C. Lambert and sons-in-law, Jack Lawson and Roger Clifton. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Skyline Memory Gardens by Rev. Alex Martin and Rev. Barry Leonard. There will not be a visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church at 314 S. Franklin Rd., Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Roger Kerley, all the staff of Skilled Care at Northern Hospital and especially to her wonderful caregiver, Penny Wall.
