Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Winborne Woltz, "Betty"

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Winborne Woltz, "Betty," passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012. She was born in Murfreesboro, NC, on December 22, 1921 to the late Judge and Mrs. Stanley Winborne. She was happily married and devoted to Mr. William Kingsbury Woltz, Sr., for almost sixty years. Mrs. Woltz graduated from Peace College and St. Mary's Junior College in Raleigh, and Salem College in Winston-Salem. She was a dedicated member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She gave much time to the community and loved being with her family and friends. When she was sixteen years old she was the leader the North Carolina Debutante Ball in Raleigh. Mrs. Woltz avidly read, gardened, played golf and bridge, and enjoyed participating in many social and civic activities. These included the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America; Daughters of the American Revolution; Junior League of Raleigh; Murfreesboro Historical Association; North Carolina Museum of History; and Surry Arts Council. Mrs. Woltz was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her laugher, keen wit, and great stories will be missed by many people, especially her adoring family: William K. Woltz, Jr., and wife, Page; Frances Woltz Fennebresque and husband, John; Frederick Early Woltz and wife, Leslie; and Elizabeth Winborne Woltz; grandchildren, William K. Woltz, III, and wife, Katie; Thomas Nelson Woltz; John C. Fennebresque, Jr., and wife, Jolee; Amy Fennebresque Burleson and husband, Baker; Frances Fennebresque Hankins and husband, John; William Tudor Fennebresque; Frederick Early Woltz, Jr., and Edward Eckard Woltz; great-grandchildren, Margaret Fennebresque; Katherine Burleson, William Burleson, Caroline Burleson, and Emily Burleson; John Hankins, Jr., and Frances Hankins; and John Woltz and William Woltz. Mrs. Woltz is survived by a brother, Samuel Pretlow Winborne and a sister, Rosa West Tucker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Woltz was preceded in death by her beloved companion and husband, William K. Woltz, Sr; her brothers, Stanley Winborne, Jr., Vaughn Winborne and Thomas Winborne, and sister, Molly Winborne Roper.Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Trinity Episcopal Church with Father Ray Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 472 N. Main St., Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
