Mrs. Frances Simpson Bowman, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 23, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Bowman was born April 3, 1927, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Sam and Mary Kidd Simpson. Frances retired from Mount Airy City Schools after 30 years of service. After her retirement, she volunteered countless hours at Surry Medical Ministries. Mrs. Bowman was a longtime member of Mount Airy Friends Church. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Linda Bowman of Winston-Salem, and Mike and Diane Bowman and Johnny and Joan Bowman, all of Mount Airy; her grandchildren, John and Beth Bowman, Betsy and Brian White, Lee and Jessica Bowman, John and Meghan Shelton, Jamey and Jaime Shelton, Susan Meadows, and T.J. and Allison Goswick; and her great-grandchildren, Sachiel Meadows, Luke Kuffman, Andrew Bowman, Peyton Bowman, Abby White, Jace Bowman, Conner Shelton, Emerson Shelton, Finley Shelton, Noah Shelton, and Vann Shelton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Eugene “Gene” Bowman, Sr.; and two sisters, Martha Hamby and Betty Simpson. A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 27, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Stewart R. Mauck officiating. No formal visitation will be held at the funeral home. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Mount Airy Friends Church Organ Fund, c/o Phil Thacker, 514 East Devon Drive, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to her caregiver, Ruth Marion and all the wonderful staff at RidgeCrest.
