Mrs. Freda Maybell Young McConkey

Mrs. Freida Maybell Young McConkey, 70, of Mt. Airy passed away at Twelve Oaks Senior Living on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. She was born in Surry County on June 11, 1946 to the late Charlie and Vergie Norman Young. Mrs. McConkey is survived by her husband, James McConkey; daughter, Stephanie Renee McConkey; sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Angel Childress, Johnny and Amanda McConkey and Corey and Ashly McConkey; grandchildren, Brandon Guynn, Dylan McConkey Christopher Short, Noah Short, Jordan Childress, Tabatha McConkey, Alexandra McConkey, Anthony McConkey, Colby Wilson, Caitlyn Sumner, Amber Wilder; great grandchildren, Hayleigh Guynn and Haven Guynn; a sister, Sandra Cornell. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McConkey was preceded in death by a daughter, Tabatha Childress; grandchildren, Caitlin Childress, Hailey Short, Michael Sumner, Ashley Wilder and two sets of infant twins; a sister, Janice Mae Wyatt; brothers, Charlie Young, Jr. and Jerry Lee Young. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Goggin officiating. Burial will follow at Brim’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
