Mrs. Geneva Wilson Thore, widow of Claude Washington Thore passed away April 3, 2017 at Northern Hospital Surry County, Skilled Nursing Facility. Mrs. Thore was born July 10, 1915 in Surry County, to the late George Washington Wilson and Martha Jane Wilson. She had resided at the family home place at 176 Prison Camp Road since 1933 where Claude was an outstanding farmer and community leader in the Beulah community. The past three years she was a resident in the skilled nursing facility at NHSC. Mrs. Thore graduated from Dobson High School, and is a member of New Life Baptist Church. Surviving are her two daughters, Doris Thore Fawcett of Mt. Airy, and Patricia Thore Cooke and husband Steve of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Thomas Garnet “Bud” Fawcett III of Aurora, Oregon, Len Fawcett of Mt. Airy, Angela Bowman (Denise) of Winston-Salem, and Renee Bowman Price (Randy) of Hixson, Tennessee; five great grandchildren, Lila Fawcett and Raina Lee Fawcett of Aurora, Oregon, Jake Espinosa and Emily Espinosa of Hixson, Tennessee, and Benjamin Jennings Bowman of Winston-Salem. Mrs. Thore is also survived by one sister, Irene Wilson Patterson, and one sister-in-law, Betty Wilson; and several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Thore was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers, one passing away as an infant. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 12:00 PM, at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy with Rev. Gray Kirkman and Rev. Kenneth Jessup officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens in Mt. Airy, NC. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials are made to the Skilled Nursing Facility, Northern Hospital of Surry County, c/o of Mrs. Christi Jones, 830 Rockford St. Mt. Airy, NC 27030. Mrs. Thore had been a resident of the skilled nursing facility for over three years and had enjoyed all the activities they provided. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the entire staff for their loving care and professional services. Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy is serving the Thore family.
