Mrs. Gertie Rodgers Cates

Mrs. Gertie Rodgers Cates, age 95 of Patrick Springs, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on May 17, 1913 to the late Jacob and Augusta Gray Rodgers. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cates was preceded in death by her husband, John Cates; seven brothers, and two sisters. She was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cates is survived by her son, Charles Rodgers of Patrick Springs; two grandchildren, Wanda Wood and Tammy Baliles; seven great-grandchildren, Crystal Willard, Margie Brown, Isaac Wood, Casey Coleman, Katina Vipperman, Julian Baliles and Matt Baliles; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cates will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Mark Wright, Bernard Handy and Dwayne Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow in New Beginnings Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
