Mrs. Gladys Mary Badgett Hooker, 94 of Mount Airy, died Saturday morning, April 7, 2018 in Mount Airy. Mrs. Hooker was born in Surry County on October 30, 1923 to the late Jesse Quinton Badgett and Ellie Mae Cassell Badgett. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed. Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Timothy James Hooker and Jay Quinton Hooker; grandson, Jody Marion Hooker; great-grandchildren, Tye Hooker and Ariel Hooker; sister, Leona Badgett Huffman; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hooker was preceded in death by her husband, James Melvin Hooker; a sister and two brothers-in-law, Lena Jane Badgett Marion and husband Millard and Clarence Lee Huffman; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Coy A. Badgett and wife Thelma; and Dalmer “Red” Badgett and wife, Bertha. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday afternoon, April 10, 2018 at 2:00pm at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Mark A. Reece, Jr. officiating. The family will be receiving friends in the fellowship hall after the service. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home; however, her body will remain at Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy for her family and friends to honor her memory. The family would like to say thank you to the staff at CCC for all of the love and tender care given to Gladys during her stay. In lieu of food and flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1022, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to the Activities Department at Central Continuing Care, 1287 Newsome St., Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Service is respectfully serving the Hooker family.
