Glenda Tidwell Robbins, age 73, of Dobson, NC passed away peacefully on Friday October 20, 2017 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was proceeded in death by her parents, James Elmon and Margaret May Tidwell, 5 sisters, one brother, and her daughter Carmen Skyes Mackwell. She is survived by her beloved husband Richard Allen Robbins of the home, her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Vickie Sykes, of King, NC, son Randle Allen Robbins and wife Krissi of Spokane WA. Daughter Stacey Bissell and husband Brad of Battleground WA. And 11 greatly loved grandchildren.
Glenda’s passion was always to make the lives better for developmentally challenged people. To that end, in the early 90’s, she and other community leaders developed the “Special Friends Program” for Surry Friends of Youth”. Glenda was the Program Coordinator, donating her time until she could get the program funded. When that program was up and running, she accepted the position of “Easter Seals Respite Care Coordinator for Surry and Yadkin Counties.” For the first time, overnight respite care was available for parents and caregiversof mentally and physically handicapped people. Glenda’s real love through was for the Foothills Food Pantry. When her best friend, and Volunteer Coordinator passed away, Glenda took that program on. Working with the most awesome volunteers in the world, Glenda and her crew brought the program up to the success it is today. Glenda donated 56 years of her time, often 40 hours a week, and loved every moment of it. She retired from the Food Pantry due to failing health. Friends made over the years involved in these programs were very special people and dear to Glenda’s heart. They include, Maxine Carisle, Daylon Greene, Loraine Jones, Pam Tilley, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Key, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen, Pattie Draughn, and Audrey Draughn.
A memorial service will be held Saturday Nov. 11, 2017 at Dobson United Methodist Church, the family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm; Service will begin at 2:00 pm. Everything will take place in the Sanctuary. There will be no formal services held at the Funeral Home.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Foothills Food Pantry Box 1065 Dobson, NC 27017, or to The Dobson United Methodist Church PO Box 497, Dobson, NC 27017, or to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd. Dobson, NC 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Robbins family.
