Mrs. Glenna Sharpe Lanier passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. Mrs. Lanier was born September 2, 1923 in Davidson County to the late Garney and Cora Sharpe. Mrs. Lanier was the wife of Mr. Ralph O. Lanier, Sr. of Dobson for seventy-two years. She was the mother of Judy Lanier Crutchfield of Kernersville, Connie Lanier Johnson of Columbia, SC and the late R.O. Lanier, Jr. She was the beloved grandmother to Carmen Crutchfield, living in England, Heather Crutchfield Bolick and her husband Darin of Charlotte and Jessica Johnson Meyer and her husband, Jenkins of Charlotte; her great-granddaughter is Lanier Bolick. Mrs. Lanier had two brothers and seven sisters, who are deceased. Her only surviving sister is Willie Ruth Leonard of Lexington. She had many nieces and nephews, whom she loved. Mrs. Lanier worked for the Northwestern Regional Library System. She became the Staff Librarian of Dobson Community Library from 1959 to 1985. She was very dedicated to the efforts of the library through the years and in her retirement. She was also a member of Dobson Women's Club and Elkin Presbyterian Church. Many will remember her for her helping ways and beautiful smile. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, December 13, 2012 in the Mausoleum of Forest Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Lexington by Rev. Brian Rummage where friends will be received afterward. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 at Moody-Davis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dobson Community Library PO Box 1264 Dobson, NC 27017 or to Elkin Presbyterian Church 151 Hillcrest Drive Elkin, NC 28621.
