Mrs. Grace Rakes Dalton

Mrs. Grace Rakes Dalton, age 89 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on March 10, 1919 to the late Arthur E. and Annice Hall Dalton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dalton was preceded in death by her first husband, Lemuel Thomas "Taft" Rakes; one son, Thomas J. Rakes; two sisters, Evelyn Wigington and Clarice Harris Hall; and two brothers, Edward A. Dalton and Richard N. Dalton. She was a member of Conner's View Primitive Baptist Church, and had worked at United Elastic Corporation.
Mrs. Dalton is survived by her husband, Plenny Dalton of Dublin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lucille and Lester Craig of Stuart, Betty and Elmer Dalton of Gibsonville, North Carolina, and Virginia and Edward Gunter of Stuart; three sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde and Phobe Rakes of Kernersville, North Carolina, John Henry and Betty Rakes of Sandy Level and Garry and Cheryl Rakes of Front Royal; a daughter-in-law, Velva Rakes; 22 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two step-sons, Wendell Dalton and Kelly Dalton; two step-daughters, Joyce Walker and Joan Hawkins; one brother, Herman Dalton of Stuart; two sisters, Myrtle Gregory and Mabel Rakes, both of Stuart; and a sisters-in-law, Bizzy Dalton and Mae Dalton of Stuart.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dalton will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Revs. Wayne Moore and Jim Churchwell officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home of her daughter, Virginia Gunter of 190 Clark House Farm Road, Stuart.
