Mrs. Grace Myrtle Francis Slate

Mrs. Grace Myrtle Francis Slate, age 96 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on April 8, 1911 to the late William Madison and Susie Collins Francis. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Slate was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby M. Slate; one son-in-law, W. Nash Cox; one grandson, Larry Ray Cox; five brothers, Edgar, Walter, Wharton, Joe and Ham Francis; and two sisters, Lelia F. Joyce and Annie Barnard. She was a loving mother and grandmother. He was a faithful member of Stuart Baptist Church, as well as one of the oldest members.
Mrs. Slate is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Erna S. and Elder Weldon Joyce of Mount Airy, North Carolina and Juanita Slate Cox of Lexington, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Slate will be held Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Rev. Jim Brackett officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
