Mrs. Hallie Badgett White, 86, passed away January 4, 2017 at Brookridge Retirement Homes in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born July 3, 1930 in Surry County to Robert Byrd and Emma Marion Badgett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Montgomery White; sisters, Mamie Badgett, Grace Badgett Whitaker, Lela Badgett Atkins; brothers, Lonnie Badgett, Gernie Badgett and Willie Badgett. Survivors include sisters-in-law Naomi White, Maxine White, Jettie White and her nephew, Billy G. Whitaker of Winston-Salem and several great nieces and nephews. Billy wishes to thank his wife Bonnie for the countless days she spent helping with the care of his aunt. Hallie graduated from Dobson High School and was valedictorian of her senior class. She retired from Dixie Concrete in Mount Airy as Office Manager. Hallie was a faithful member of Union Cross Baptist Church of Elkin, NC where she taught a Senior Adult Sunday School class, and served as Director of the Women’s Missionary Union. She was a member of the Union Cross Ruritan Club where she served as a director and President. She volunteered for the Surry Baptist Associational Resource Center, Foothills Food Pantry and the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was a member of the Surry County Extension Master Gardeners and 4H Leader for the Youth through the Surry County Extension Service and a member of the Good Neighbor Home Extension Club for 40 plus years. She enjoyed quilting, cross-stitching and crocheting afghans. Hallie enjoyed working in her yard and garden. This was evident as she and her best friend and neighbor, Gladiona Payne, grew a garden together and enjoyed canning and freezing the fruits of their labor. Funeral services will be held at Moody-Davis Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 9, 2017 with Rev. Tom Parker and Rev. Leon Holyfield officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials be made to Union Cross Baptist Church, 1993 Twin Oaks Road, Elkin, NC 28621.
