Mrs. Hazel Barnard Helms

Mrs. Hazel Barnard Helms, age 94 of Meadows of Dan, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at her home. She was born in Patrick County on April 22, 1922 to the late Alvin Meyric Barnard and Ettie Terry Barnard. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Helms was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Helms; a son, Vernon Edward Helms; and a brother, William B. Barnard. She had been a member of Meadows of Dan Baptist Church.

Mrs. Helms is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jean Helms Carter and Hershel Carter of Meadows of Dan; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Inez Hylton, Vera and Buddy Seigler, all of Meadows of Dan, Jessie and Claude Morrison of Williamsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church with Pastor Shaun Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Building Fund, 2511 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Meadows of Dan, Virginia 24120.
