Mrs. Helen Montgomery Flippin

Mrs. Helen Flippin, age 73, of Lowgap, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born in Alleghany County January 9, 1945 to the late Abie Lee and Josephine Wagoner Montgomery. Mrs. Flippin was known by many as “Nanny Helen”. She cared for many children, even second generation of families. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved flowers and was an avid fisherman. Mrs. Flippin was a faithful member of Mountain View Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dennis Flippin; daughters, Cathy Dowling and husband Ricky, Donna Hughes and fiancé Mike Burnett; sons Doug Flippin and wife Melissa, David Flippin and wife Pam; grandchildren, Richard Lee Flippin, Brandi Vanessa Norman and husband David, Matthew Dowling and girlfriend, Hannah Ashburn, Tyler Dowling, Kasey Gough and husband Nathan, Blake Hughes and Brooke Hughes; great-grandchildren, Ava, Anakin, William, Westin, and Benton; a sister, Wanda Robinson; and brothers and sister-in-law, Buck and Dreama Montgomery, and Johnny and Debbie Montgomery; several nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Mountain View Baptist Church with Rev. Ewell Vernon, Pastor and special friend Scott Flippin and Dennis Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy Tuesday, January 30, 2018.
