Mrs. Hilda J. Harbin

Mrs. Hilda J. Harbin, age 96, of Mt. Airy, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Golden Living Nursing Center. Mrs. Harbin was born in Surry County on December 20, 1919 to the late Lillian Park Hall and Floyd Hutchens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Harbin, Jr. and her brother, F. Jack Hutchens. Surviving are her children John S. Kidwell (Polly), Harriett H. Holmes, Linda H. Hicks (Bill) and Jean Armfield (Glenn) all of Mt. Airy; sisters-in-law, Doris Rayle and Grace Sullivan both of Florida; a brother-in-law, Thomas Harbin of North Beach, Maryland; her grandchildren, William Richards of Indiana, Michael Richards (Dana) of Smithfield, NC, Brenda Richards of Mt. Airy, Matthew Hicks (Katie) of Clemmons, Thomas Armfield of Fairmont, West Virginia and Michelle Lovell (Phil) of Ridgeley, MD and she had fifteen great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Harbin worked as a secretary of the Prince Georges County Board of Education in Upper Marlboro, MD and was the owner of the Hen House gift and ceramic ship in White Plains. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and prior to her illness she was a resident at Twelve Oaks for several years. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Sam Mason officiating. Burial will follow in White Plains Friends Meeting. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the loving care provided them and their mother from the doctors and staff of the Woltz Hospice Home and Golden Living.
