Mrs. Irene Jenkins Chaney

Blanche Irene Jenkins Chaney, 89, of Dobson, North Carolina passed away August 28, 2011. Born on March 11, 1922 in Dobson, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Nonnie Jenkins.Irene married the late Albert "A" Chaney in 1939 and they had 3 children. She rejoiced in her family and raising her children, much of which she did as a single parent after losing her husband as a young mother. Irene retired from a thirty-three year career at Washington Mills / Tultex. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading, cooking for her family and neighbors, and canning produce from her garden. She was an active member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church and influenced the lives of many people through her years teaching Sunday School and directing church plays. Irene truly lived a life filled with faith and caring for others. Irene is survived by her children Larry (Scarlett) Chaney of Elkin, Anndrea (Don) Phillips of Dobson; and Frosty White of Elkin; by grandchildren Marsha (Chuck) Ebert of Durham, Ryan Harrison of Dobson, Drew (Emily) White of Elkin, Derek Phillips of Dobson, and Jonathan White of Elkin; and great-grandchildren Leah York and Grace Harrison of Elkin, Kendall and Kasen White of Elkin, and Mason Ebert of Durham. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 30 at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Dobson. A celebration of Irene's life will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, August 31 at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, by Rev. James Pardue and Brother Barlow Stanley, where her body will lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gideons International (PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214) or Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care (401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030).
