Mrs. Iris Weddle Cole, age 80 of Claudville passed away Wednesday evening at her home. She was born in Willis, VA on Dec. 12, 1928 to the late Lonnie Weddle, Sr. and Rittie Dickerson Weddle. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude Clayton Cole; two grandchildren, David and Daniel Cole; and three brothers, Dale, Elvin, and Cleve Weddle. Mrs. Cole was a longtime member of Hatchers Chapel United Methodist Church; was a member of the F.C.E.; a former 4-H leader, was a census worker, and volunteered at the voting polls.
Surviving are a daughter and son in law, Jane and Jay Williams of Roanoke; two sons and daughters in law, Dr. Richard and Astrid Cole of Stuart, Joseph and Amanda Cole of Claudville; 11 Grandchildren, Clayton Cole, Carol Cole, Jason Williams, Jessica Williams, Jennifer Williams, Christian Batcheller, Dr. Giselle Batcheller Sloop, Justin Cole, Scott Cole, Ian Cole, and Austin Cole; two brothers and sisters in law, John and Faye Weddle of Mt. Airy, NC, Lonnie and Wanda Weddle, Jr. of South Carolina; one sister and brother in law, Alice Elizabeth and Dennis Summers of Woodlawn; and a special sister in law, Mary Cole of Mt. Airy, NC.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Hatchers Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Harry Shirrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
