Mrs. Janice Marie Nixon Freeman, 87, of Elkin passed away on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. She was born in Surry County on January 9, 1925 to the late Scott and Ethel Cockerham Nixon. Mrs. Freeman was retired from Spencer's Incorporated and was of the Baptist faith. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted son, Johnny Freeman of Elkin; two grandsons, Rev. Mark and wife Kim Freeman and Kevin and wife Susan Freeman all of Dobson; three great-grandchildren, Kasi and Sydney Freeman and Joseph Johnson; a sister, Ann Llewellyn of Wheeling, West Virginia; a brother, Gilbert Nixon of Dobson and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her husband John Roger Freeman; two sisters and three brothers. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm Monday, February 20, 2012 at Swan Creek Baptist Church in Jonesville by Rev. Mark Freeman with burial to follow. The family will receive friends AT Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Monday from 12 pm until time to depart to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, Activities Department 700 Johnson Ridge Road Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Darryl Rhyne and the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving compassionate care.
