Mrs. Jewell Light Alderman

Ms. Jewell Light Alderman, age 78 of Gretna, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Gretna Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Meadows of Dan on September 9, 1934 to the late James Andrew and Leitha Pearl Boyd Light. In addition to her parents, Ms. Alderman was preceded in death by her first husband, William Lloyd Handy; two brothers, Clyde Light and Hill Light; and three sisters, Jean Sarver, Lillian Belcher and Beulah Rigney. She had worked at Bassett-Walker.
Ms. Alderman is survived by two daughters, Tina H. Shelton of Stuart, Emma Alderman of Florida; three sons, Benny Handy of Colorado, Wendell Alderman and Edwin Alderman, both of Meadows of Dan; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lola Manning of Roanoke, June Sigmon of Danville and Lois Sutton of California; and one brother, Albert "Bud" Light of Stephenson, Virginia.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Light Family Cemetery with Pastor John Franklin officiating. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
