Mrs. Jewell Ann Hill Shumate

Mrs. Jewell Ann Hill Shumate, age 80, of Dobson passed away on Friday December 16, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born in Surry County on December 24, 1935 to the late Oscar Hill and the late Ethel Mooney Hill. She was a member of Glory Light Baptist Church, she retired from Surry Industries with over thirty one years of service. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister Margaret McCraw; one brother Rex Hill. Surviving are her husband of over fifty one years Robert Junior Shumate of the home; one son Robert Jeffery Shumate of the home; sister and brother-in-law Lois and Horace Durham of South Carolina; nieces Sherrie McCraw of Mt. Airy and Ashley Matheny of South Carolina; Nephew Bryon McCraw of Knoxville, TN. Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday December 20, 2016 at Glory Light Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Level Cross United Methodist Church Cemetery. Bro. Keith Jones will conduct the services. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the time of her service at 2:00 PM. at Glory Light Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Glory Light Baptist Church; or to Level Cross United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund; or to her husband Junior Shumate 209 Oscar Hill Rd. Dobson, NC 27017.
