Mrs. Jo Anne Graves Hiatt

Mrs. Jo Anne Graves Hiatt age 64 of 110 Hollybrook Trail, Mt. Airy, NC wife of Mr. Billy Ray Hiatt passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at her home. She was born May 13, 1947 in Surry County to the late Joseph B. and Iris S. Graves. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a friend to all that knew her. She was retired from the Mt. Airy City School System with 32 years of service and was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Billy Ray Hiatt of the home, a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Neil Shelton of Mt. Airy, a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Melissa Hiatt of Mt. Airy, five grandchildren, Jacob Hiatt, Scarlett Hiatt, Rachel Hiatt, William Shelton and Addison Shelton all of Mt. Airy, a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Cindy Graves of East Berlin, PA, a sister and brother-in-law, Ginny and Randy Smith of Deep Run, father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Russell and Addie Hiatt of Mt. Airy, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Jerry Stone of M. Airy, two "special aunts", Geraldine Slate of Mt. Airy and Margaret Wolfe, State Road, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Iris Hiatt and brother, David Graves. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Bannertown Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Rev. Rusty Reed and Rev. Mickey Cogdill. Burial will follow in the Shelton Church of the Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Friday at Bannertown Baptist Church where she will remain until the hour of the service. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the care given during Mrs. Hiatt's illness.
