Mrs. Julia Axsom Barber, age 95, of Elkin passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Pruitt Health. She was born in Surry County on July 5, 1922 to the late Neal and Carrie Childress Axsom. Mrs. Barber was retired from Tultex Industries after many years of dedicated service and attended Snow Hill Baptist Church as long as her health allowed. Her life was devoted to God and her family. She is survived by her daughters, Lois and Willie Hatfield of Arizona and Louise and Willie Freeman of Elkin; a daughter-in-law Sue Barber of Elkin; a brother and sister-in-law Robert and Carol Axsom of Dobson; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; several special nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Edgar William Barber; two sons, Harold and Herman Barber; two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home by Brother Jerry Pardue, Rev. Jason Johnson and Rev. Tim Burton with burial to follow in Union Cross Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Pruitt Health for their tender, loving and compassionate care during her short stay there.
