Mrs. Julia Anderson Wells Jackson died December 18, 2011. She was born in Edgefield, SC on March 16, 1920, daughter of the late Mitchell Preston Wells and Julia Mason Anderson Wells. Her parents died when she was seven years old and she and an older brother made their home with their cousins, the John C. Anderson family of Erie, PA. The Andersons later adopted the Wells children. She was a 1941 graduate of Chatham College of Pittsburgh, PA with a Bachelor of Arts degree. At graduation she was awarded the senior award trophy cup given to the best all around student athlete. After graduation she was employed by the Y. W. C. A in Erie, PA as swimming instructor. She married Richard D. Jackson of Erie, PA in 1943 and moved to Philadelphia where he was attending Temple University School of Medicine. She taught high school there in 1943 and 1944, and then was employed as a sales and service representative for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. She is survived by three sons, Dr. David D. Jackson, Dr. Thomas R. Jackson and Roger M. Jackson, nine grandchildren, Dr. Julianna Jackson Clark of Raleigh, Ashley Jackson Berta of Raleigh, Thomas Justin Jackson, Candace Daire Jackson of Mt. Airy, Dr. Richard D. Jackson II of Winston-Salem, Jennifer Wells Jackson Weber of New York City, Zachary David Jackson of Charlotte, Jordan Emily Jackson and Baily Elizabeth Jackson of Mt. Airy, also great grandchildren, Ryan Weber and Skylar Weber, Parker Jackson, Will, Maggie and Katie Clark, Mike and Riley Berta, Andrew Jackson and Skye Jackson of Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by three brothers, Dr. Mitchell Preston Wells, Dr. Edward B. Wells and John Anderson Wells. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, The National Wildlife Federation and the United States Humane Society.
