Mrs. June Martin Smith

Mrs. June Martin Smith, 68, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved people, of Ararat, VA, widow of Gideon P. Smith, went home to be with the Lord, Friday afternoon, May 10, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Smith was born July 1, 1944, in Surry County, the daughter of the late James William and Willie Puckett Martin. June retired from J.C. Penney Company, Inc. and was a member of Unity Church where she served as treasurer. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Connie Smith of King and Kerry "Cubby" and Angelia Smith of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, Jesse Smith, Cory Smith, Ryan Smith, Andrew Smith and Emily Smith; one sister Gaynelle Doster of Charlotte; brother-in-law and his wife, Charles and Ophelia Smith Claudville, VA; nieces, Lisa Wolhar, of Charlotte and Shelly Smith; nephews, Ty and Mark Doster of Charlotte, NC; Stephen Smith of Charlottesville, VA and Jonathan Smith of Charlotte, NC; special friend, cousin, and caregiver, Shelby Kirby of Mount Airy; lifetime friends Patsy Smith and the late Billy Gray Smith of Claudville, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Gideon Preston Smith; brother-in-law, David Smith, and brother-in-law, Russell Doster; and nephew, Van Doster. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 13, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Unity Church with the Rev. Buford E. Jessup, Rev. Barry Clement, and Rev. Jon White officiating. Burial will follow in the Unity Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy, NC.
