Mrs. Katherine Morris Brown

Mrs. Katherine Morris Brown, born March 25, 1917, died September 8, 2011. She attended Mt. Airy City Schools and was a 1934 graduate of Franklin High School. Having graduated from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 she was a registered nurse. Mrs. Brown retired from Northern Hospital of Surry County, Mt. Airy in 1982. A former member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Airy, Mrs. Brown has been a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for nearly seventy years. For many years she was an active member of the church choir and enjoyed singing solos. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie C. Brown; parents, E. Victor and Jesse Webb Morris; brother, Howard Morris; daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Steve Taylor; son-in-law, Bill Dorton; grandson, Chip Dorton and great grandson, Adam Taylor. Mrs. Brown is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Harry Montgomery; daughter, Mary Lynn Dorton; son, Lon Brown and partner Geoff Hazen; grandsons, Chris and Stuart Taylor and Michael Montgomery; granddaughter, Katherine Montgomery; granddaughter and husband, Kelle and Keith Miller; great grandchildren, Cheyenne and Dakota Miller; great granddaughter-in-law, Katy Taylor; great-great grandson, Henry Taylor; sisters, Marguerite Brown, Ruth Blackburn, Dorothy Boyles and Myrtle Morris; sisters-in-law, Maude Willard Morris and Patsy Jones Brown; many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend, Phil Whitaker. The family will be receiving friends Saturday, September 10th at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church starting at 9:30 AM followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM with Dr. James Joseph officiating. Burial will be immediately afterwards in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the music program of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 123 Mt. Carmel Church Rd., Mt.
