Mrs. Katherine “Kitty” Hennis Seivers passed to our Heavenly Father on June 19, 2017. She was born on April 1, 1952, in Surry County, to the late Cecil F. Hennis, Sr. and Elizabeth Fawcett Burke. She was the light and loving wife of Michael Phillip Seivers, mother of Katherine Elizabeth Fawcett Seivers, and stepmother of Michele Seivers McByers and Zachary William Seivers. She is also survived by her brother, Cecil “Bud” Hennis and his wife Judy Illene Hennis, her sister, Elizabeth “Anne” Hennis Haynes and her husband Richard Haynes, as well as her brother-in-law, Denny Ray Shelton. She was preceded in death by her sister Garnet “Pinky” Hennis Shelton. Kitty moved to Costa Rica in 1977 and began farming and supplying fern to the international flower industry. She became known as the “Queen of the fern business” by building 150 acres of greenhouses and delivering products of the highest quality. Upon returning to her home in Mount Airy, she worked to help her community through philanthropy and volunteering with local non-profit organizations. She was a true “Queen” to all those who knew her and she will be greatly missed. There will not be a formal visitation. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Oakdale Cemetery with Bishop John Bradley and Bishop Robert Bradley officiating. Flowers will be accepted.
