Katheryn S. Long, age 58, passed away at her home in Johnson City, Tennessee on Saturday, September 3, 2011. Kathy was born in Marion, North Carolina on December 22, 1952. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tennessee. Kathy worked in several roles at Baxter Healthcare Corporation early in her life, before leaving to devote full time to her family and friends. She was a very important part of her husband's and children's lives. Kathy had a big, caring heart and was always ready and eager to provide support and assistance to anyone, at any time. She was loved by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Johnny Paul Long, age 64, of the home; two children, Jennifer Michele, age 32, and her husband William Shelton of Roan Mountain Tennessee; Dustin Paul Long, age 30, of Johnson City, Tennessee; her parents, John and Edith Ridley of Lake Lure, North Carolina; two brothers, Mike Ridley of Lake Lure, North Carolina, and Archie Symonds of Old Bridge, New Jersey; as well as several aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, September 9, 2011 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in the Beulah Community of Surry County. The Rev. Ray Hall, who married Johnny and Kathy in 1977, will conduct the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in honor of Kathy to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 272 Oak Grove Church Road, Mount Airy, N. C. 27030.
