Mrs. Lettie June "June Bug" Hawks

Mrs. Lettie June “June Bug” Edwards Hawks, age 82 of Mt. Airy, went to be with her Lord on May 7, 2016. Mrs. Hawks was born in Carroll County on June 5, 1933 to Gilbert John, Sr. and Maude Golding Edwards. After 54 years of perfect attendance at Renfro Corp. where she was a supervisor and later, manager of the sock store, she finally retired from the job she truly loved and enjoyed. She was a faithful and dedicated member of New Bethel Baptist Church while her health allowed. “June Bug” will always be remembered by her sweet smile that could brighten any room. She was so loving and humble, everyone who knew her will dearly miss her, but rejoice in the knowledge that she rests peacefully in the arms of God. Left behind to cherish her memory is a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mike Joyce; devoted brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Kathy Edwards who lovingly cared for “June Bug” throughout her battle with Alzheimer’s; brothers and a sister-in-law, Frank Edwards and Gilbert Edwards, Jr. and wife Jama Lee and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Ray Hawks; and by a sister, Mary Lee Parks. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 9, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jimmy McCraw. Burial will follow in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Bethel Baptist Church at 2826 Pipers Gap Rd., Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt.
