Mrs. Lettie Lee Willard Thomas

Mrs. Lettie Lee Willard Thomas, 94, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2016, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Thomas was born January 20, 1922, in Carroll County, VA, to the late General Meigs “G.M.” and Cora Westmoreland Willard. Lettie was married to the late Clarence Edward Thomas the love of her life. She was a lifelong member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully and lovingly. Her dedication to God and family were endless. She retired from Spencer’s, Inc. after 55 years of service. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Marilyn Thomas of Beverly Hills, FL, and Michael and Marie Thomas of Westfield; her daughter, Nancy Thomas Haynes of Mount Airy; her grandchildren, Stephen H. Thomas, Jr. (Gigi Rollini), Christopher Thomas (Brittany Beihl), Cori McMillian (Matthew Golding), and Zachary McMillian (Lena Hawks); her great-grandchildren, Stephen H. “Trey” Thomas, III, Ben Thomas, Zarah Love, Trip McMillian, and Hayden Golding; her sisters, Juanita Bowman of Winston-Salem and Maude Morris of Mount Airy; a special brother-in-law and his wife, Russell and Nancy Thomas of Mount Airy; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, who she loved dearly. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Layla Mae McMillian; two sisters, Hester McCreary and Josie Robinson; and four brothers, Roy Willard, Troy Willard, Dewey Willard, and Bill Willard. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joe Kossan and the Rev. Dennis W. “Bud” Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, c/o Bonnie Sechrist, 216 Holly Avenue, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
