Mrs. Linda Simmons Jennings

Mrs. Linda Simmons Jennings, age 68, of Mountain Park, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday May 8, 2012 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. She was born in Surry County on March 7, 1944 to the late Lee Roy Simmons and Alva Alice Holcomb Simmons. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Al Dean Jennings, and her two brothers, Bobby Lee Simmons and James Preston (J.P.) Simmons. Linda retired from Surry Co. Schools as Teacher Asst. at Mtn. Park Elementary School and as secretary for the Elkin Presbyterian Church. She was a Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church and member of the Mtn. Park United Methodist Church, Chaplain of the Surry County Association of Rescue Squads (SCARS), lifetime member and Chaplain of the Mtn. Park Rescue Squad and Volunteer Fire Dept., part time employee at Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson and a former Mtn. Park Citizen of the Year. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Lesia and Mark Cockerham of Dallas, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Tracy and Laura Jennings of Newport News, Virginia; grandchildren William Harold Cockerham, John Carlon Cockerham, Samuel Jennings Cockerham, Nicholas Dean Jennings, Brian Patrick Quinn, Katherine Elizabeth Quinn; sister and brother-in-law Debbie and Eddie Wilmoth of Dobson, NC; sister-in-law Rose Dema Simmons of Winston-Salem, NC, and sister-in-law Judy Simmons of Boonville, NC; special friends Karen Hayworth, Mae Werner, Sarah Williams, Walsie Callaway and Daisy Rector. A Memorial Service will be held 7:00 P.M. in the Mtn. Park Elementary School Gymnasium on Friday evening May 11, 2012, services conducted by Rev. Dale Walker. A private Graveside Service held at an earlier time in the Mtn. Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Mtn. Park United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1087, Dobson, NC 27017; Mtn. Park Rescue Squad, 1137 Zephyr Rd., State Road, NC 28676; or to Mtn. Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson is serving the Jennings Family.
