Mrs. Lois Magalene Key Long, 87 of Mt. Airy passed away Friday August 5, 2011 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Long was born in Surry County, September 3, 1923 to the late John and Ida Norman Key. She was retired from the Mt. Airy city school system and a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Long is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley Long of Winston Salem, Christy and Bruce Gammons of Mt. Airy; two sons, Jerry Long of Myrtle Beach, SC and Kemp Long of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Ben Long, Danielle Long and Katie Rebecca Pearson; a brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Phyllis Key of Chicago, IL. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Long was preceded by her husband, William "Bill" Fentress Long; a sister, Pauline Key Clifton; two brothers, Bill and Russell Key. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday August 7, 2011 at 3:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:30 until time for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suit 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and to the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the care given to Mrs. Long.
