Mrs. Lola Mae Martin Childress

Mrs. Lola Mae Martin Childress age 94 of Mt. Airy, NC passed away Thursday July 2, 2015 at the Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Childress was born January 15, 1921 in Stokes County to the late Willie Vestal and Maggie Harrison Martin; she was retired from Spencer's Inc. and worked in many other positions in Mt. Airy until the age of 88. Mrs. Childress was also a faithful member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law Bobby L. and Carolyn Woodham Childress of Florence, SC. and Jack R. and Donna Hiatt Childress of Greenwood, SC. grandchildren Julia Margaret Childress Khaled of Fort Mill, SC., Shawn Ellis Childress of Hot Springs, AR., Crystal Childress Yandle of Charlotte, NC., Jack Miller Childress of Truckee, CA., William Taylor Childress of Yangon, Myanmar., step grandchildren Leslie Privette Capobianco, Kelly Elizabeth Radcliff and Samuel Manning Privette all of Hartsville, SC, seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a special care giver and niece Amanda Lichvar. In addition to her parents Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Leo Childress; five sisters Ruth, Clara, Bessie, Hessie and Odell and by two brothers Alvis and Harry. Funeral services will be held Sunday July 5, 2015 at 3:00P.M. at Flat Rock Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Stewart Mauck with burial to follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 PM until time for the funeral at Flat Rock Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church, 1335 E. Pine St. Mt. Airy, NC. 27030. Moody Funeral Services will be assisting the Childress Family.
