Mrs. Lola Hayden White

Mrs. Lola Hayden White, 93, of Wilmington, formerly of Mt. Airy passed away Thursday morning, January 21, 2016, at her home. Mrs. White was born May 9, 1922, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Ed Robert and Maggie Beatrice Hooker Hayden. She was a loving mother and grandmother and everyone who met her loved her. Mrs. White retired from Hanes Knitting after 21 years of service. She enjoyed weaving baskets, crocheting and making all types of crafts. She was a wonderful seamstress, always making beautiful dresses, coats and other clothing for her family. Mrs. White was a faithful member of Slate Mountain Baptist Church as long as her health permitted and prior to moving to Wilmington to live with her daughter. Left to cherish her memories are daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and David Garvey of Wilmington, Linda and Oscar Jarrell of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Lena Hiatt, Derrick Jarrell and wife, Terri; six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. White was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Olin White; a granddaughter, Wendy Macdonald; a sister, Inez Jessup and two brothers, Lloyd and Graham Hayden. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy with Rev. Chris McMillian and Rev, Verlon Combs officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston Salem. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:00 until 1:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
