Mrs. Lucille Rakes Craig

Mrs. Lucille Rakes Craig, age 85 of Salem, and formerly of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at her home. She was born in Patrick County on February 19, 1928 to the late Lemuel Thomas "Taft" Rakes and Mary Cassell Rakes. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Craig was preceded in death by her husband, Lester O. Craig; a son, Wayne Craig; her step-mother, Grace Dalton Rakes; and a brother, Thomas J. Rakes. She was a longtime member of Stuart Baptist Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Stuart Chapter 25, and a member of the R. J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She had retired from J.P. Stevens with over 30 years of service, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Craig is survived by two sons, Lester Craig, Jr. and wife, Betty of Salem, Michael Craig of Stuart and special friend, Jan Ferraro of Danville; four grandchildren, Brianne Bartone and husband, Lenny of Richmond, Melissa Conley and husband, Calvin of Salem, Marty Nowlin and wife, Lisa of Stuart and Bryan Nowlin of Stuart; five great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Phoebe Rakes of Kernersville, North Carolina, John Henry and Betty Rakes of Altavista, Garry and Cheryl Rakes of Strasburg; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Elmer Dalton of Gibsonville, North Carolina and Virginia "Jinky" Gunter of Stuart.
Funeral services for Mrs. Craig will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Stuart Baptist Church with Dr. Clint Hopkins and Rev. Robert Belcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Craig Family Cemetery in Meadows of Dan. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at her home in Stuart.
